Fast becoming known for its superior aroma, flavour and heat to that of the peppercorn, Mountain Pepper is an exciting new savoury hot spice.   Mountain pepper (Tasmannia lanceolata) is a shrubby plant native to the cool, moist mountains of Tasmania , Victoria and southern New South Wales . Most supplies still come from wild harvest, though cultivation is well under way so supply is reliable. Mountain Pepper is hot and peppery with a hint of chilli afterburn. The berries have a distinctive spicy, pungent taste and are very aromatic, giving them a unique savoury flavour. The berries can be used fresh or dried and used whole or ground. They can be used in a pepper mill. Mountain Pepper can be used in any recipe that calls for pepper, but mountain pepper has much more punch!

Both the leaves and the berries of Mountain Pepper can be used to season food. The aromatic leaves can be used fresh, or dried and powdered.

Mountain Pepper is available as dried whole berries, dried whole leaf or dried leaf spice
